FAQs
The questions you actually ask.
When does my travel insurance start?+
Cancellation cover starts the moment you buy. Medical, baggage and other in-trip cover starts on your departure date and ends when you return home.
Do I need travel insurance for Europe if I have a GHIC?+
Yes. GHIC only covers state healthcare on the same terms as a local. It doesn't include private hospitals, repatriation, lost luggage or cancellation — that's what travel insurance is for.
Can I get cover with a pre-existing medical condition?+
Almost always, yes. You'll answer a few questions about each condition during the quote and we'll match you to the right underwriter. Even cancer in active treatment can be insured by specialist providers.
Is COVID-19 covered?+
Yes — emergency medical, repatriation and cancellation due to a positive test before departure are included as standard.
What's the maximum trip length?+
Single trip cover goes up to 365 days. Annual multi-trip caps each trip at 31 days as standard (45 or 60 on premium). Backpacker policies cover trips up to 18 months.
Can I cancel my policy?+
Yes — you have a 14-day cooling-off period from the policy start date. Outside of that, refunds are at the underwriter's discretion.
Are dangerous sports covered?+
Over 100 activities are included as standard, including skiing on-piste with the winter sports add-on, scuba to 30m, trekking to 4,000m and surfing. Higher-risk activities (heli-skiing, base jumping, etc.) need a specialist policy.
How quickly are claims paid?+
Most straightforward claims are paid within 10 working days of receiving complete paperwork. Complex medical claims typically take 4–6 weeks.
